Am 1.7.1990, am Tag der Währungsunion, gründeten fünf Mitglieder der damaligen LPG Pflanzenproduktion Greven die Schmidt & Co. GmbH. Die neu gegründete GmbH kaufte die Materialien und Gebäude des sich in Auflösung befindenden Pflanzenbaubetriebes.
Mit über 30 Beschäftigten nahm die neue Firma dann am 1.7.1990 ihre Arbeit auf. Aus einer reinen Landmaschinenwerkstatt entwickelte sich ein moderner Betrieb, der auf mehreren Gebieten einen umfassenden Service für seine Kunden bietet.
